DIY Confetti Poppers for Juneteenth

Juneteenth, also known as Freedom Day, is almost here! It is an American holiday observed annually on June 19th to commemorate the emancipation of the last remaining enslaved African Americans in Texas. Celebrate with these DIY confetti poppers that everyone will enjoy. I made a similar project last year for a 4th of July segment with Good Day Tampa Bay. Since my boys loved the confetti poppers, I thought it would be a perfect way to get them excited about Juneteenth. My boys love making a mess so this is the perfect craft for them. I know everyone has plenty of toilet paper rolls around the house due to the pandemic. Grab a few more supplies and create these awesome DIY confetti poppers for Juneteenth.

Supplies for DIY Confetti Poppers

Balloons (black, red, green or yellow)
Toilet paper roll (recycled)
Tape
Scissors
Alphabet stickers (optional for decorating)
Pom poms, crayons, glitter or markers (optional for decorating)
Cardstock (green, black, red or patterned)
DIY Confetti – shredded tissue paper (green, silver or red)

Directions

First, make a knot at the end of the balloon then cut off the tip.
Next, stretch the balloon tightly around the recycled toilet paper roll then secure it with tape.
Wrap the toilet paper roll with the paper and secure it with tape. Cut off the excess paper from the toilet paper roll.
Decorate the confetti poppers with pom poms or glitter. Kids can also use markers or crayons to draw on the confetti poppers. Use alphabet stickers to add Juneteenth, J19, June 19th or Freedom to the confetti poppers.
Use the scissors to cut up the shredded tissue paper into confetti pieces.
Add the confetti to the toilet paper roll.
To launch the confetti, pull down on the bottom knot of the balloon, and let go! Now you’re ready to celebrate Juneteenth.

I wanted to create a craft that kids can use to celebrate Juneteenth. My boys had a great time launching the confetti. There’s a huge mess afterwards but they had so much fun.
