How to Make a Frankenstein Sensory Bin for Halloween

Frankenstein sensory bin for Halloween

Halloween is almost here! Yes, I’m still making crafts and putting together fun activities for this holiday. Can you blame me? Halloween is all about fun and I wanted to make sure nothing changed despite the pandemic. I was searching for a Frankenstein sensory bin but could not find one. How crazy is that?!

My kindergartner is learning about power words in school. His teacher wanted him to work on a few words since he is moving up to the next reading level. I decided to create this Frankenstein sensory bin that included a power word search activity. If you have younger children, they can enjoy searching for letters instead of creating words.

Sensory bins are great for small children but they should always be closely supervised. Some of the items may be a choking hazard. You can substitute with larger Halloween party favors.

I really loved how this Frankenstein sensory bin for Halloween turned out. It was easy to make and I used items from previous sensory bins. I’ve been trying to find an activity for the wooden tile letters. Once I decided to create a power words search activity for my kindergartner, I knew the tiles would be perfect. It was fun watching him dig and search for the letters.

Supplies for Sensory Bin

Directions

  1. First, chose a food coloring to dye your rice. I already had black rice so that’s what was used for this sensory bin. Once it’s dry, get ready to put together your sensory bin. I used 4 cups of long grain rice for this Frankenstein sensory bin. Don’t forget to check out this post to learn how to dye rice.
  2. Next, add the wooden tile letters inside of the plastic bin.
  3. Pour the colored rice in the sensory bin to cover the letters.
  4. Add the pipe cleaners, mini bones, Frankenstein toilet paper roll craft and other Halloween items to the bin. Also, grab some measuring spoons, cups or scoops then add to the bin.
  5. Finally, print the Frankenstein power words search. Start searching for the hidden tiles then put together the words on the list.

My kindergartner had so much fun searching for the letters to create his power words. His brother was more interested in pouring and scooping the rice. Once my kindergartner was finished with power words search activity, he used the funnel to pour rice through the Frankenstein toilet paper roll. He also counted all the mini bones in the sensory bin.
