Awesome Paper Plate Ice Cream Craft Kids Will Love

paper plate ice cream craft

We’re still celebrating summer with some fun and easy crafts! In honor of National Ice Cream Month, I wanted to create a colorful sundae art project for kids. No need to worry about your ice cream melting with this awesome activity.

This paper plate ice cream craft was inspired by Heidi at The Go-To List. I decided to make waffle bowls because it’s my favorite way to enjoy this frozen treat. Let your kids get creative with their flavors and toppings while making this ice cream art project.

Supplies for Paper Plate Ice Cream Craft

Directions

  1. Start by folding the paper plate in half. If your child is old enough, let them cut the paper plate along the line.
  2. Paint the flat side of the paper plate light brown. Allow it to dry.
  3. Next, use a cotton swab to make criss cross lines with the dark brown paint. This will create the waffle bowl pattern. Allow it to dry.
  4. Go on a shape hunt with the kids to find a small circular shape to make the ice cream.
  5. Trace and cut three circles from different color paper. You can ask the children which “flavors” they want to create for their sundae.
  6. Now it’s time to decorate your ice cream with toppings. They can use glitter, pom poms, markers, glitter glue or sequins. Allow your children to get creative with this project.
  7. Finally, glue the circles under the top of the paper plate.

This is a fun summer craft for kids that can also be created any time of the year. There’s so many ways for children to decorate their ice cream. They can use large pom poms for cherry or glitter glue to make sprinkles. Have you seen those over the top ice cream bowls? Your kids can recreate something similar by adding paint to the top of the waffle bowl. The paint will represent frosting and kids can add glitter or colored rice to represent sprinkle.
