We are enjoying all the butterfly visitors that stop by our milkweed. I wanted to create a colorful craft inspired by these beautiful creatures. We love using the scrape painting technique. You can create so many cool and colorful patterns and it’s easy to make. This butterfly scrape painting is a fun art project for kids that doesn’t require a lot of supplies. Supplies for Butterfly Scrape Painting
- Paint (any color)
- Recycled cardboard (cut into a square)
- White cardstock
- Scissors
- Clear tacky glue
- Pencil
- Butterfly template
- Cricut (optional)
Directions
- First, download, print then cut out the free butterfly template. See supplies to get the template. If you have a cutting machine like a Cricut, search for a butterfly image then cut.
- Next, add a few drops of different color paint on white cardstock.
- Take the cardboard square and scrape the paint across the white cardstock. Start at the top and move downward. Now move in a different direction. Try not to scrape the paper more than 3 or 4 times. Set aside to dry.
- Use a pencil to trace the butterfly template on the painted cardstock then cut.
- Finally, glue the black body to the scrape painting butterfly.
