Awesome Shark Fin Hat Craft That Kids Will Love

shark fin hat craft for kids

We are in full Shark Week mode at my house. My boys are rocking shark shirts every single day (yes, I’m extra) and we’re watching cool shows on the Discovery Channel. The only thing missing this year is their awesome shark fin hat. I was inspired by Donella at Glue Sticks + Gum Drops to create one for my boys. You only need a few supplies to create this adorable hat for Shark Week.

Supplies for Shark Fin Hat

  1. Start by cutting 3-4 strips of paper, depending on the size of your child’s head.
  2. Next, tape two strips of paper together to form a headband. Add another piece if it doesn’t fit your child’s head.
  3. Tape another strip of paper and tape it inside the headband.
  4. Now download the shark fin template. Print two copies on grey paper then cut.
  5. Kids can decorate the shark fin with glitter or stickers. This step is optional.
  6. Fold the bottom of the shark fin facing inward then glue together.
  7. Glue the two fins together. There will be a gap near the bottom but that’s fine.
  8. Finally, glue or tape the fin to the top strip of the headband. Your shark fin hat is ready to show off!

This was such a fun craft to make for my boys. If you have older children, let them join you to help create this cool shark fin hat. They can wear it to celebrate shark week or for an ocean unit dramatic play center. Let them run around outside pretending to be a shark searching for food. You can also place a blue plastic tablecloth or blanket on the ground inside your home and the kids can pretend to swim. Get creative and have fun!
