Beautiful Spoon Butterfly Craft for Kids

spoon butterfly craft for kids

We love butterflies! My husband planted milkweed in our front yard to help monarch butterflies. It’s been so cool watching the life cycle happen at our home. I thought it would be a great idea to make this beautiful spoon butterfly craft in honor of our little friends. Your kids will enjoy getting creative with designing the wings of their butterfly. This art project is perfect for a sunny spring day or when you need a fun indoor activity when it’s raining outside. Scroll down to get all the details!

Supplies for Spoon Butterfly Craft

Directions

  1. First, let your child paint their watercolor paper or cardstock any bright or spring colors. This will be used to create the wings for their butterfly. They can create a cool pattern or keep it simple. Set aside to dry.
  2. Next, use the acrylic paint to add stripes to the wooden disposable spoon. When you’re done painting the spoon, set it aside to dry.
  3. Once your spoon is completely dry, use markers to add eyes, cheeks and a cute smile.
  4. Now it’s time to make the wings for your butterfly. Fold the painted paper into a fan. Make sure you fold it evenly for the best results.
  5. An adult will use a hot glue gun to attach the wings to the wooden spoon.
  6. Finally, cut one piper cleaner in half then shape it into the butterfly’s antennae. Glue them onto the back of the spoon (top) then glue a pom pom on each side. Your spoon butterfly craft is ready to explore the outdoors.
