Supplies for Cardboard Ice Cream Cone

  • Cardboard
  • Scissors
  • Glue (liquid & hot glue with glue sticks)
  • Old magazine
  • Marker (brown, black)
  • Paint (colors based on ice cream flavors)
  • Ruler
  • Foam brush
  • Bottle top

Directions

  1. First, draw and cut 3 large circles from cardboard. I like to make perfect circles so we traced a trivet from the kitchen.
  2. Next, use the ruler to draw a large triangle on cardboard to make the cone for the ice cream.
  3. Cut out little rectangle pieces from an old magazine. The colorful pieces will represent the sprinkles.
  4. Color the circles with paint using the foam brush. Choose any color that represents your favorite ice cream. We chose yellow for banana, navy blue for blueberry and ocean breeze for cotton candy. Allow the paint to dry.
  5. Apply red paint to the bottle top to represent a cherry. We used the top from a recycled sprinkles bottle. However, any large bottle top will work for this project. Allow the paint to dry.
  6. Cut out a squiggly line at the bottom of each circle to resemble an ice cream scoop shape.
  7. Draw diagonal lines on the triangle for the cone with a ruler and brown marker.
  8. Layer all the scoop shapes on top of each other then glue. We started with yellow, navy blue then ocean breeze. Also, make sure to glue the scoop shapes to the cone.
  9. Once it dries, decorate with the little rectangle pieces that represent the sprinkles.
  10. Finally, glue the red bottle top to the cardboard ice cream cone to represent the cherry.

This was such a fun craft to make with my son. He enjoyed choosing the colors to represent the flavors of his ice cream as well as making the sprinkles. If you have little ones, this is a great opportunity to work on color recognition and counting. They also get a chance to practice using scissors. This adorable cardboard ice cream craft can be used as a prop for a party as well as decoration. Hope you enjoy making this craft as much as we did!
