How to Make a Pom Pom Heart Craft

pom pom heart craft for kids to celebrate Black History Month or Valentine's Day

I wanted to create a fun project that combines Valentine’s Day and Black History Month. This pom pom heart craft for kids is inspired by Dr. Daniel Hale Williams. He was the first African American cardiologist who performed the first successful open-heart surgery. Dr. Daniel Hale Williams also opened Provident Hospital and Training School for Nurses, the country’s first interracial hospital and nursing school. Making this craft is a great way to discuss an important person in history while also having fun.

Supplies for Pom Pom Heart Craft

Directions

  1. First, download and print your heart template then cut it out. If you have a Cricut, find your favorite heart shape then cut.
  2. Next, use a pencil to trace the heart template on recycled cardboard. Now use scissors to cut it out. If you have smaller children, make sure they are using safety scissors or assist them with this step.
  3. Finally, add glue to the cardboard heart. Let your kids use their fingers to pinch the pom poms then press them onto the heart. Repeat until the heart is fully covered.
