Easy Colorful Cardboard Easter Eggs for Kids

colorful cardboard Easter eggs

Easter is a fun holiday to craft with the kids. There’s so much you can do from making Easter bunnies, decorating eggs to making your own Easter basket. I’m always searching for crafts that can be made by using recycled materials. I was inspired by Hello Wonderful to create beautiful cardboard Easter eggs. Thankfully, I was able to use leftover cardboard from the pirate ship I made for Gasparilla. Cheers to saving money! The best thing about this art project is the few supplies that are required to complete this craft. Little supervision is needed especially if you have older children. Follow the steps below to make colorful cardboard Easter eggs with the kids.

Supplies:

  • Cardboard
  • Scissors
  • Paint (white and various colors)
  • Removable tape (Washi tape is perfect)
  • Paint brush or foam brush
  • Egg template

Directions:

  1. Print egg template and use to cut out your cardboard eggs.
  2. Next, paint your cardboard eggs with two coatings of white paint.  This will help the bright colors stand out later.  Also, if you are using washi tape, the white will show to make the colorful cardboard eggs pop. Allow the paint to dry before moving on to the next step.
  3. Use the removable tape to make patterns to color block your cardboard eggs. Skip this step if you do not want color block patterns for this Easter craft.
  4. Paint the cardboard Easter eggs using different bright colors. Allow the paint to dry before moving on to the next step.
  5. Finally, remove tape when the paint is dried to reveal cool patterns for this fun art project. Use as decoration around your home or hide for your Easter egg hunt.

These colorful cardboard Easter eggs turned out beautiful. The vibrant colors really POP! My husband was really impressed with this craft. Make an Easter garland by punching holes then stringing yarn through the eggs. Hang them on your mantel or on the wall.  Enjoy!
