How to Make Decoupage Pumpkin Using a Napkin

decoupage pumpkin

I’ve seen so many decoupage projects using a napkin and decided to finally try it out for Halloween. I was inspired by Tina of The Bear And The Fawn blog. She created a beautiful ghost pumpkin! I wanted to try something different so when I found the butterfly napkins I knew they would be perfect for this project. It turned out better than I expected especially for my first time. I will share how to create your own decoupage pumpkin to add some beautiful decor to your home.

Supplies for Decoupage Pumpkin

  • Craft pumpkin ( I purchased a paper mache pumpkin from Target)
  • Premium decoupage gloss (here’s a similar product)
  • Butterfly print napkins or your choice of Halloween print napkins
  • Foam brush
  • Scissors
  • Black paint or any color that matches the napkin.
  • Glitter (optional)

  1. First, cut the butterflies or Halloween prints from the napkin. This project is a bit time consuming but it’s worth it in the end. I found my napkins from Home Goods but you can find beautiful prints at different stores.
  2. Next, use the foam brush to apply decoupage glue all over the pumpkin in the area the napkin will be applied.
  3. Apply the prints to the pumpkin. Make sure to smooth it out to avoid wrinkles. Then apply another thin coat of decoupage glue. Allow the pumpkin to dry.
  4. Finally, paint the stem of the pumpkin black or any color. I decided to add glitter but it’s definitely optional.

As I stated before, this was my first time decoupaging with napkins. It was a fun project but took longer than expected. I was warned about using small prints for the decoupage pumpkin but I didn’t listen. So, my advice is to find a napkin with larger prints to use. I love the final results and think it turned out great! This pumpkin is displayed on my bookshelf with the rest of my Halloween decor.
