Thanksgiving may look a little different this year, but you can still have a great time with your loved ones. I will share two simple Thanksgiving games the whole family will enjoy. Whether you’re looking for something to keep the kids busy while you prepare the meal or an interactive activity for everyone, these games will add a little more fun to your Thanksgiving celebration. These homemade games are created using recycled materials that can be found in your home. Have a wonderful Thanksgiving!

I had the opportunity to share these simple Thanksgiving games with the viewers of GOOD DAY TAMPA BAY on Fox 13. The segment was previously recorded and filmed outside of the studio for safety reasons due to Covid-19. My kindergartner joined me to help out with the Thanksgiving games. Here’s the two simple Thanksgiving games that was featured on the show.
Pin The Feather on The Turkey
Supplies
- Cardboard
- Pencil
- Construction paper or cardstock (yellow, white)
- Googly eyes
- Glue
- Red balloon
- Tape
- Crayons or markers
- Optional: stickers, glitter, sequins, pom poms
Directions
- First, have your child search for circular objects around the home to create the turkey. Then cut a large circle and a medium circle from the cardboard for the turkey body.
- Next, cut a beak and feet from the yellow paper. This is great opportunity for children to work on the scissor skills.
- Glue the eyes, feet and red balloon (wattle) to the turkey.
- Cut feathers from white paper and have children decorate using markers or crayons. They can also add glitter, sequins or stickers.
- Play the game by either blindfolding your child or having them close their eyes. Then have them “pin” their feather on the turkey using tape.
Stuff The Turkey Game
Supplies
- Brown paper grocery bag
- White tissue paper
- Stapler
- Brown paper lunch bags
- Recycled paper
- Glue
- Recycled plastic bags
Directions
- Start by folding the top of the paper grocery bag down toward the inside of the bag.
- Fold the two front edges of the bag down then staple or glue.
- Next, stuff the bottom of the brown paper lunch bags with the recycled paper or plastic bags.
- Add the white tissue paper inside the bag leaving some out to form the turkey leg.
- Twist the top of the bags around then secure it with staples.
- Finally, glue the turkey legs on the bigger bag to complete your turkey.
How to Play
There’s two different ways to play this game. You can either play the educational version by having your child practice their sight (power) words or have a competitive game as a family. Gather recycled pieces of paper to toss into the bag. The first way is played by writing different sight words on the pieces of recycled paper. Have your child practice reading the words then toss the paper in the turkey. The second version is played by forming teams and compete to see who can fill up their turkey with the most “stuffing” made from the pieces of paper. You will need more than one turkey if you are playing this version. We used different color paper to represent different types of ingredients for the stuffing like carrots, onion or bread. If you have sitting or crawling babies, adjust the game by placing the “stuffing” in front of them so they can place it in the turkey.
